PTA Kate Talks TLC
My name is Kate LaSpina and I have just embarked on my studies with Summer. I was lucky enough to spend a yearlong dedication to TacFit, 1 month of which was with Summer. I have studied Yoga since 2005 and have been teaching since 2009. I am Iyengar Certified as well as a licensed Physical Therapist Assistant. Since working as a PTA, I have become fully immersed in the application of safe, creative, and powerful biomechanical movement to yoga practice and teaching.
The 6-week Summer FlowFit Challenge will give me the opportunity to get specific about my short term and long term goals. Living in a body that is inherently hypermobile and lax, my goals have been to progressively gain more strength, stability, and resilience. This challenge with help me fine tune and plan how I can best serve my needs. I am also excited to gain tools to address anxiety, stress, and overall mental overload.
Accountability is big in the FlowFit Challenge. Also learning from others, sharing, and unexpected “Aha!” moments. I am always refueled by the experience of shared learning. My biggest struggle in personal development has historically been learning how to not be too hard on myself. It is too true we are our biggest critic. I tend to pack a lot in to my days/weeks, and leave little time for positive reflection. There are so many ways to practice deep listening. For the last 7 years or so, I have fallen in love with the hiking trails Bellingham has to offer. I spend about 6 hours a week in the Chuckanuts, Stuart Mountain, and beyond. Hiking and trail running helps me tend to the relationship of breath, body, psyche, and heart in such a loving way. Hiking is truly a ritual for me. I do need more accountability with physical exercise that focuses on short bursts of energy and power! I also need support in taking days "off."
