#1 Strength & HIIT Training 3-4 Days per week

For women strength training  is especially important as we age. It improves circulation, maintains muscle mass and bone density. Women lose bone density around age 35. This density is lost at a much more rapid rate than men. And strength training over a period of time can help prevent bone density loss.

 

Training leverage tools like the steel mace also keeps grip strength strong. Grip strength = a major factor in heart health. Also training torque* with a mace will help your stabilizing muscles. Strong stabilizers in older age can decrease likelihood of falls and help with joint health.

This is why we encourage women to strength train as a preventive practice. And even if you are completely new to this kind of training, it’s never too late to start.

*Torque: at Flow Shala this is when you “rip” and “crush” the mace. It sets your ball and socket joints in the socket and increases maximum force.

#2 Develop Stress reduction & Self Regulation Skills:

Stress reduction is a critical part for keeping your body & mind young. Stress in the brain can cause all sorts of dis-ease or simply lower cognitive function. Stress in the body can be stored in your tissues, causing pain or lack of awareness. Because sometimes accumulation of stress can actually dull out the senses if not dealt with.

Most people turn to meditation as the ultimate stress reducing technique. While we are big advocates of meditation, we also highly recommend HIIT* training for stress.

When you train under a light load in HIIT your body actually digests stress chemicals. This digestion helps with mental health & nervous system resilience.

We recommend training 3x a week of HIIT to get the most consistent stress busting results! Add in 10 minutes of meditation a day and you will be feeling ultra zen in no time!
